Stock Market Turmoil Equals Opportunity for Young People
We will all most likely live through the stock market crash of 2008. With oil on its current decline, a lot of young people may not be feeling the effects of the volatility, while older people with more money are watching their 401Ks shrink. But since young people are decades from retirement, the low prices of investments may prove beneficial.
A young person with a retirement fund could bank off the current economic environment by continuing to steadily contribute to their retirement funds. The dumbest thing for a person to do would be to stop investing. With the prices of stocks down, people can contribute the same amount as they have been, but get more shares, then when those stock prices go back up, they’ll own more shares and make more money. The method is called dollar cost averaging.
This is a freaky time, but if we just chill and not make it worse than it is, we’ll live and come out stronger.
Television Noir
Tonight at 12:30, Television Noir, a TV show on AZTV, is going to play my This Dream music video.
Television Noir is a weekly program featuring events and happenings from the Phoenix arts scene. Aside from the each episode showing a music video and interviewing a local artist, it’s also filled with some very interesting and entertaining material.
Old People Ignorance
At a McCain rally on Friday, an elderly woman announced (on the mic) that Obama was an Arab. John immediately took the mic from her and assured her that Barack was not Arabic, but rather “a family man citizen”.
McCain, whose campaign has been slinging plenty of mud as of late, displayed a slice of decency by correcting the misinformed woman.
Whether you agree with Barack’s policies or not, his campaign has been sound, with few attack ads and no giant blunders. However, Barack does provide enthusiasm about the upcoming changes America needs, which may concern old people.
It’s obvious America needs to alter some things to keep it going. With the massive older population gearing up for retirement, younger generations are going to have to step up in the workforce and be the decision makers. Plus, younger people were raised in a more tolerant generation, creating a generational gap.
Old people need to trust and accept the younger generations, allow us to make balanced choices, and realize we’re not a bunch of digital dope heads.
Issue 18
Laborliss Magazine Issue 18 comes out today. If you don’t live in Greater Phoenix, you can download an electronic copy by going to the Laborliss Magazine page, then clicking on Issue 18.
This month we did 1,000 copies of 12 full color pages, quite a leap from its humble beginning of about 50 copies of 4 black and white pages.
I’ve watched the magazine’s popularity skyrocket, and am thrilled to death. I feel there is an obvious demand for the concept at this current moment in time. I will continue to strive to get it to as many readers as possible.
For those new to the project, Laborliss Magazine is a fictional lifestyle magazine, written from the point of view of the pretentious Laborliss citizens. It’s a free magazine that circulates around the Tempe/Phoenix/Mesa/Scottsdale area. it is a sister project to the book, Stories From Laborliss: Volume 1, which is a collection of short stories about the off-the-wall tales of the Laborliss residents.
Both projects are worth checking out.
I will keep you posted on future developments on everything.
