I Still Love You
I haven’t blogged in a while, but don’t worry, world, I still love you. I’ve just been busy working on the 20th issue of Laborliss. We took a look back at how some of the previous stories have impacted Laborliss. It comes out next Monday, make sure to get a copy. The 1,000 copies around town go super fast. We need to up our distribution again, and are planning to do so in early ‘09. Meeting creativity with commerce occupies a young man.
The System Doesn’t Represent Me
Growing up with a hyperactive imagination, I understand what it feels like to be an outsider. Some of us just see society a little differently, and it’s important there’s a voice for those individuals.
A lot of people aren’t allowed to live to their fullest potential cause they get trapped in the system. It’s easy to fall in some annoying and paralyzing pitfalls, so here’s a couple of tips to avoid them:
1. Have the courage to be an individual. Ever notice how everyone in your circle is going in one direction, but inside you feel that you have to go another way, even though it would feel good to go with your friends? Go with your gut. That’s where the world is directing you.
2. Avoid debt. Most young people get so strapped with debt at a young age that they can’t go for what they want when they get older, they have to immediately get a job. Although borrowing money is sometimes necessary, here’s a couple of reminders:
-Get health insurance. If you get sick, you could owe the medical establishment for a long time.
-Understand your student loans. Student loans never go away, even if you file for bankruptcy. Those puppies are with you for life. If you do borrow money for school, take the time to understand them and pick the choice that best benefits you. Also, it’s OK to be unsure what you want to do with the rest of your life when you’re young. If you’re not feeling school and you feel like you’re going to quit, have the courage to take a year off and enter the workforce. A young person working full time is impressive, and you won’t be a loser and you can go back, despite what your guidance counselor says.
-Avoid trouble with the law. Like it or not, the powers that be view you as a source of revenue. When you get in trouble they’re going to take as much of your money as they can.
- Don’t have a baby if you’re not ready. Dude, birth control, that’s all.
Lets rise up.
The System Doesn’t Work For Me…
I wasn’t born with a silver spoon so my only option was to scrap. I had to. The only other choice was to remain where I was and not get my ideas out. Having climbed up the ladder a couple of rungs, I’ve come to understand some shit more. We have more rights than we think we do. The system wants to intimidate us, scare us, take our money, never let us live the “good life.” The powers that be just get rich off of it. But if we fight back, educate ourselves, and stand tall we can persevere. After what has happened in this country it’s time for this generation to rise up and not tolerate this shit anymore. This is our fucking world. We do all the fucking work. We are the government! Lets get ours.
I don’t want to hear any bitching, I just want to see action. Positive fucking actions that benefit us! Us–the young smart, intellectual, intelligent, creative young people.
New America, New Money
I don’t want young people complaining about money anymore. It’s been proven that anything is achievable. After the “economic crisis” and the election, I feel our generation will be more aware and involved of/in the world around them. It makes it a lot easier when we have a leader who actually gives a shit about more than just rich white people who’ve already made it. I will do anything I can to make sure nothing like the last 8 years happens ever again. I was 17-25 during Satan’s administration, and I am hoping to get an 8 year reprieve on my taxes for enduring the insanity. Anyway, it’s time for us to get money and live good.
The World is Ours Again!
Barack Obama has become President. Anything is possible. This is the beginning of a new era. I want young people to feel like anything is doable, cause it is. Watching Obama achieve this has been incredibly uplifting.
We are not Retarded
I don’t see these times as pessimistic, world-ending times. I have faith in this generation. We’ve grown up with information at our fingertips, we didn’t grow up with the segregation and homophobia, and we’re a more intellectual generation.
Obviously, there’s been a disruption, making this election huge. It’s Old vs. New. Generations X and Y are going to be moving up in the world as the massive amount of baby boomers retire and hopefully just…go away for a while.
We need to take action and progress our society. There shouldn’t be and doesn’t need to be this many problems in the world. Life isn’t that fucking hard.
