What is Laborliss
Real life
Laborliss Magazine is fictional lifestyle magazine that comes out the first Monday of each month. An online version, which includes every issue, is available on this website and a print version circulates around Tempe, AZ and Greater Phoenix.
Laborliss is a project with fictional characters from the fictional town of Laborliss. The citizens of Laborliss are a bunch of pretentious jerks who think they’re better than everyone. Laborliss Magazine is written from their viewpoint.
Stories From Laborliss: Volume 1 is a collection of short stories about the day to day happenings of the Laborliss characters. When this website was launched, it served as an outlet for those stories. Now those same stories are being published into paperback books. The first 33 stories make up Stories From Laborliss: Volume 1, which is now available.

Within the Story Lines
The town of Laborliss is a high class community full of pretentious egomaniacs who feel they deserve special treatment. The citizens adore their local Meteorologist, Larry Chovaka, and his main squeeze, news reporter Fifi Furfurfester. Each evening the duo charm the town with their exaggerated, biased reports of the news. In reality, Larry Chovaka is a mad scientist attempting to take over the town using the news to his advantage. His girlfriend, the flakey, ambivalent, indecisive, Fifi Furfurfester is a want-to-be actress and is usually manipulated by Larry to participate in his schemes. Fifi, who actually possesses some acting skills, is often reluctant to participate in Larry’s schemes. She eventually caves in after Larry reminds her he has entertainment connections and acting in his plans will prepare her for the big time.
The town is saved from these problems by the hated Gus. Gus came to Laborliss many years ago in pursuit of a life full of opportunity, instead he was immediately ostracized because of his appearance and inept social skills. After he was banished from Laborliss, Gus began voluntarily solving the town’s problems. Gus did this so well the town crowned him their Superhero with “super” logic as his strength. Now whenever a problem arises, a flag with an L for loser is raised and Gus is called upon. Despite Gus actually solving these exaggerated problems, the town still dislikes him and remains unappreciative of his work because of the unconventional methods he uses.
Leonard the Homeless Guy is the harmless, rowdy leader of the lower class, which is referred to as the Two Times Crew because they always loiter around the Second Hand Store, Two Times. Leonard does have somewhat of a living environment under one of the bridges, but spends majority of his day running around and relaying gossip and info between crew members. The town loathes him and blames him for all the town’s problems, which are really caused by their beloved Larry Chovaka.
Besides Larry and Fifi, the 4 primary characters rarely interact but each play a vital and misconstrued role in the problems and events within Laborliss.
